How’s the weather?
A massive high-pressure system has built up over Central Europe and, consequently, over our region as well. It will continue to dominate the weather unchallenged well past Pentecost. This will bring in very dry and exceptionally warm air masses. Plenty of sunshine and temperatures that are exceptionally high for this time of year are the logical result. The warmest air is expected to reach us on Whit Monday or Tuesday. In the low-lying valleys, the thermometer will climb well above 30 degrees, and it will be hot. In some places, record-breaking temperatures for late May cannot be ruled out. The freezing level will rise to over 4,000 meters above sea level. On Wednesday, the high-pressure system will temporarily shift its center slightly further west. As a result, not quite as warm air from Northern Europe will be able to reach us along its southeastern edge. It is still unclear how significant the drop in temperature will be, or whether it will occur at all.
