A heat wave in the form of very hot air is reaching us from France. The heat wave will continue to intensify on Friday and reach its peak on Saturday. In low-lying valleys, temperatures are expected to exceed 35 degrees Celsius with plenty of sunshine—a figure that could very well set a record for June. The freezing level in the mountains will temporarily climb above 4,500 meters above sea level. Heat thunderstorms will still be the absolute exception on Friday. For the most part, it will remain thunderstorm-free until the evening. On Saturday, the risk of severe heat thunderstorms will increase in the afternoon and toward evening. However, it certainly won’t affect everyone! On Sunday, we’ll gradually move toward the leading edge of a so-called trough. After a few sunny hours, the muggy and still-hot air may lead to localized severe thunderstorms, possibly even severe weather. It’s still unclear how much cooler it will get next week.
