With a weak high-pressure system in place, late-summer warmth is set to persist at the start of the new week. Whilst unclouded sunshine against a perfectly blue sky is no longer on the cards, pleasant and fairly sunny conditions will continue to prevail up to and including Tuesday. However, within the air mass – which is now quite unstable overall – there will be a slight local tendency for showers and thunderstorms to develop as the day progresses. A significant change in the weather is not expected until Wednesday, when a cold front will bring heavy rain showers and a noticeable drop in temperature as the day goes on. Thunderstorms are also expected as the front passes through. By Thursday, a new area of high pressure will once again be extending towards us from the west. The weather situation will stabilise for the long term, bringing only slightly changeable, stable and dry conditions over the following days, up to and including the coming weekend. Whilst Thursday will start off with autumnal chill, temperatures will recover significantly day by day as we head into the weekend.
