The popular event, where everyone has the chance to become world champion, took place for the 4th time this year in Ischgl and Galtür. Barbara Oberdorfer (ITA) won her 3rd World Championship title in the elite category. Swiss Linus Gerber triumphs in the men's category. Tyrolean Philip Handl in 3rd place.
In fantastic conditions, more than 1,300 e-bikers from 29 nations started the E-Bike World Championships for Everyone on Saturday. The sporting highlight was the ELITE race. Swiss rider Linus Gerber put in an impressive performance right from the start in the strong international field of participants. Soon after the start, he pulls away from co-favourite Daniel Klemme from Germany. He quickly increased his lead to over 2 minutes. The Austrians were also strong. Tyroleans Philip Handl and Patrick Föger are also in contention for the medals. The 36-kilometre route, including 1,300 metres of elevation gain, leads from Ischgl towards Galtür and back to the start and finish area. After 1 hour and 16 minutes, Linus Gerber celebrates a superior victory and takes the ELITE World Championship title ahead of Daniel Klemme (GER). In a thrilling duel for 3rd place, Philip Handl secures the bronze medal. Patrick Föger comes 5th.
In the women's race, Barbara Oberhofer from South Tyrol is the lone female racer. She wins with a lead of more than 5 minutes ahead of the best Austrian, Lisa Schüttler from Kleinwalsertal. Third place went to the German Tina Schirmaier. "I was able to organise the race well and realised that I could ride in a controlled manner, because none of the chasers could be seen behind me. I'm all the more pleased that this is now my third world title," said world champion Barbara Oberdorfer.
Under the motto "Anyone can become world champion", there were of course numerous winners in the everyone categories. A number of well-known professional athletes were also at the start. In addition to snowboard world champion Andreas Prommegger, who completed the race with his daughter Laura, former national football player Walter "Schoko" Schachner and Olympic super-G champion Sigrid Wolf were also enthusiastic participants.
The event was organised by the E-Bike World Federation and the Paznaun - Ischgl Tourism Association. Alexander von der Thannen, Chairman of the Paznaun - Ischgl Tourism Association, is delighted with the success of the event, in which he himself took part as an ELITE rider: "Once again it has been shown that the Tourism Region Paznaun - Ischgl is an excellent e-bike destination. At the E-Bike World Championships, the participants were particularly challenged on the demanding trails. Congratulations to all the finishers."
