A massive high-pressure system over Central Europe will dictate the weather well beyond Pentecost. This system will push dry and exceptionally warm air masses our way. The result will be plenty of sunshine and temperatures that are unusually high for this time of year. In some places, record-breaking temperatures for late May cannot be ruled out. In the low-lying valleys, the thermometer will climb noticeably above 30 degrees on Whit Monday and Tuesday. So it will get really hot. The freezing level will rise to over 4,000 meters above sea level. By midweek, on Wednesday, the center of the high-pressure system will temporarily shift toward the British Isles. As a result, less warm air from Northern Europe will flow toward us along its eastern flank. However, the drop in temperature will be very slight. This means that it will remain above-average warm and mostly pleasant in the second half of the week as well. There will only be brief, local showers or thunderstorms at times. It will mostly remain dry.
